Beach Clean x 3

Wednesday October 16th 2019 - Beach clean x 3

We could not have asked for a sunnier day to do our beach clean.

Ms. Philbin's 6th Class, accompanied by all members of the Green Schools committee, Sue and Ms. Cronin, left the school at 9.30am and walked the 'pure mile' route to the beach, armed with litter pickers and gloves. On arrival at the beach, half of our group went north and the other half went south, spreading out like forensic crime scene investigators, picking up every trace of litter in sight.

Ms. Beirne's 6th Class left St. Anthony's building at 11:20 am, to fulfill their commitment to the beach clean challenge. We took the 'pure mile' route noting some discarded cans and litter that we planned to collect on our return route to school after the beach clean. On arrival at the beach, we were amazed at what little litter there was for us to collect.

Nevertheless, we kept looking and enjoyed the amazing day with the sunshine warm on our backs.

Ms. Killilea's 6th Class were armed with litter pickers and ready to pick up the gauntlet, but when we heard how clean the beach was, we decided to walk the 'pure mile' purely to enjoy our locale and marvel in our marine environment. We left at 1.40pm.

With zen-like concentration we built and balanced many stones on the beach. It was very relaxing.

We are proud to have done our bit on such a beautiful sunny October day. Green schools abú.
