Student Council, a voice for the pupils of Kilcoole Primary School
Student Council is compiled up of two representations from each class from 3rd to 6th class. They are the voice of the students and meet weekly with Ms Delaney. Over the past year the student council have worked really hard to improve the sports and reading materials in the school.
Term 1: Children compiled an inventory of all the sports equipment in the school and put together a wish list of new equipment to improve PE and sporting activities. Following on from this the children managed to get new basketballs, GAA balls, footballs and improve the classroom yard boxes.
Children also ran a book drive in the school to gather a variety of genres and build up the class library in each setting. We were amazed at the amount of books that were donated to the school and very grateful to everyone who contributed.
Term 2: Children wanted to organise a non-uniform fundraiser to raise money for a treat in term 3. The fundraiser was very successful and we raised close to €1000. However in light of events in the Ukraine children agreed to donate the money to a charity to help.
Term 3: Children are continuing to monitor sports equipment and attend weekly meetings to discuss any concerns brought forward by their class or a pupil.
Let us introduce the new student council for this academic year: 2022/2023

Student council have been working hard in Term 1 to listen to the student voice. They have come up with great initiatives for the year as outlined below:
- September: The student council listened to all ideas from each classes and submitted proposals in writing to the in school management team.
- October: Student council proposed that all students could dress up for Halloween and it was a great success
- 6th class have proposed the idea of creating a hoodie for their graduation which we will work on in the new year.
- They also helped promote the idea of the shoe box appeal and ventilation breaks for active schools in their classroom.
Our main focus this term has been registering for the Amber flag to promote well being across our school. The student council acknowledged all the hard work the school are already doing in this area and wanted to be recognised for their efforts so decided to undertake the project.
They are currently organising a wellness week for February and a fundraiser for Pieta house.
